During the night of Saturday, there was still no information about any casualties, but several witnesses told the AFP news agency that forces from both countries had fired at each other, including with artillery.
Spokespersons for each government accuse the other side of initiating the attacks. According to Pakistani authorities, the fighting ended late Friday night.
Several clashes have occurred between the countries in recent weeks, despite them agreeing to a ceasefire in October.
