Lemina headed in the only goal of the match in the seventh minute.
Victor Osimhen, the attacking star, celebrated wildly in the second half, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The happiest person was probably Ibrahima Konaté. Liverpool's centre-back first carelessly cleared the ball and then dragged it back before Osimhen rolled in what he thought was 2–0.
Liverpool then had a goal disallowed for handball on Konaté.
Striker Mohamed Salah had a poor game in Istanbul. He was substituted after just 60 minutes. A small consolation: the Egyptian made his 81st Champions League appearance for Liverpool. No one at the club has made more.
