The speech lasted five minutes and 40 seconds, ten seconds longer than the British actress Greer Garson's, who held the previous record. She was named best actress in 1943 for her role in "Mrs Miniver".

Brody was named the best male actor of the year for his role in "Brutalisten".

After Garson's record speech over 80 years ago, the Academy introduced a time limit of 45 seconds. After that, the orchestra starts playing to signal that time is up.

But when the music started, Adrien Brody ordered the orchestra to stop playing.

Please, turn off the music. I've done this before, said the actor, referring to his Oscar for his role in "The Pianist" in 2003.

On his way up to the stage, Brody took out his chewing gum and threw it to his girlfriend Georgina Chapman, who then had to hold the chewed gum until the star returned to his seat after the record speech.
