Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has ordered a Stryker brigade and a support flight battalion for the mission, the authorities announce. A Stryker brigade consists of medium-heavy, armored combat vehicles.
The forces will arrive at the border in the coming weeks.
The USA has already placed 9,200 men at the southern border, of which 4,200 are under federal decision and around 5,000 from state national guards.
Trump is determined to expand the military's role to close the border and force migrants to turn back.
