Madsen was 67 years old. He leaves behind six children and a productive acting career.

"Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, who will be missed by many", writes Smith and his other manager Liz Rodriguez in a statement, according to several media outlets.

Madsen, who was born in Chicago, is among other things known for his acting performances in Quentin Tarantino's films "Kill Bill" one and two as well as "The Merciless" and "The Hateful Eight". He also appeared in "Thelma & Louise" and the popular film "Free Willy" 1993.

He began his career in the 1980s and has since participated in over 340 productions. Madsen has, among other things, been described as one of the most intense and convincing actors of our time. In recent years, Madsen has primarily played in smaller film productions.
