The police carried out several house searches at various addresses in Stockholm County from March 16 to 19. Around a hundred men are now suspected of exploiting women for payment in 275 cases.
"Breaching the sex purchase law in Stockholm is not risk-free. By exploiting women who are in prostitution, organized crime benefits," says police officer Simon Häggström, who led the operation.
The professional roles of the suspected perpetrators vary - they range from doctors to tattoo artists, bank clerks and postal workers.
A majority of the women the police encounter are in the hands of human traffickers, who take advantage of the women's vulnerability, the police say.
