Temperatures of up to 40 degrees are expected during the Australian Open on Saturday, when organisers will bring matches forward.

Matches at the main venues in Melbourne will start at 10:30am, compared to regular kick-off times of 11am or 11:30am.

On other courses, matches can start as early as 10:00am.

The organizer also urges spectators to take precautions against the extreme heat and sun.

“We will start play earlier to take advantage of the milder weather,” said tournament director Craig Tiley in a statement.

According to Australian Open rules, the tournament's head umpire can suspend play or order longer or more frequent breaks in the event of extreme weather.

The forecast says that temperatures will drop after Saturday's game, only to rise sharply again to 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
