The famous tourist destination Acropolis in Greece's capital Athens will be closed during parts of Tuesday afternoon due to the heat.
Greece's Ministry of Culture says in a statement that the monument will be closed between 1 pm and 5 pm, local time, "for the safety of the staff and visitors".
In some parts of the country, the temperature is expected to reach 42 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Athens, however, it is slightly more modest with a forecast that is not expected to rise above 38.
The heatwave that currently has Greece in its grip is the second since the end of June.
Acropolis is one of Athens' most famous landmarks and attracted 4.5 million visitors last year.
