A fourth staff member at the Academic Hospital may have been poisoned, Upsala Nya Tidning reports. The police are already investigating three cases of attempted murder.

Sources tell UNT that another hospital employee had similar symptoms to the three known cases. But the illness was not as serious. The information is not confirmed by the police.

"We can't comment on that. We are now investigating broadly to see if a crime was even committed. Part of that is to see if there are other cases with similar symptoms," Wayne Seretis, police spokesman, told UNT.

At the same time, the hospital urges patients to seek care as usual.

"I want to emphasize that no one who is in need of care should refrain from seeking care. And no employee should feel anxious about going to work," says the hospital's head of security, Viktor Ekström, in a press release.

He further says that what "may have happened is an isolated incident" and there is nothing to indicate that patients are or have been in danger.

The affected staff are being offered crisis support and the hospital is working with the police and security guards to ensure safety. According to the hospital, there is also no indication that the indoor environment or medications are behind the suspected cases of poisoning.

The three known victims work in the same department and fell ill quickly, according to police. One fell ill on October 25, the other two on November 3.

All three of the staff fell ill quite close to each other with similar symptoms and all needed intensive care, police spokesperson Stefan Larsson told TT on Wednesday.
