The reason why Milan's home game against Como may be moved to Australia is a clash in the calendar.
The same weekend the game is scheduled to be played – between February 7-8, 2026 – their home stadium San Siro is set to host the Olympic Games opening ceremony on Friday.
The game would be historic as it would be the first time a Serie A game is played outside Italy's borders.
"The board has given a positive statement to the request to play the game in Perth. So we are approaching what would be a historic game abroad", writes the Italian football association in a statement.
In the international football association Fifa's current regulations, it is stated that no league games may be played abroad, but in 2024 a working group was appointed to investigate this.
Before the matter can become a reality, the Italian association also needs to get an approval from Fifa, Uefa (European football association), the Asian and Australian football associations.
