The soldiers from the Marine Corps base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, will support the NATO operation Baltic Sentry, which was created to counter the Russian shadow fleet.
“Working side by side with our Finnish allies strengthens our collective preparedness and ensures that we can operate seamlessly as a cohesive and effective unit to deter hybrid threats in the littoral areas of the Baltic Sea region,” said Maj. Gen. Daniel Shipley, commander of Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa, in a press release.
