Åberg had a strong first round at Colonial Country Club on Thursday. The Swede was at -4 and began Friday's round two strokes behind the leaders.
The second round did not start as strongly. Åberg made par on the first eight holes, then bogeyed the ninth. But three birdies over the next eight holes saved his round.
Åberg finished the round at two under par, for a total of -6. The Englishman Jordan Smith leads at -10.
