Åberg made four birdies over the first seven holes, followed by a bogey on the ninth. More birdies followed on holes ten and twelve, resulting in a five-under-par day.
"I played well and got all parts of the game going. Overall I'm happy; my highest level was good and when I made a slightly worse shot I was able to fix it," Åberg told HBO Max, reports Aftonbladet.
Only Sahith Theegala fared better in Sunday's fourth round. The American went six under par and finished at 10 under.
Åberg's third place, a total of 12 under, is shared with American Cameron Young. The result gives prize money of 1.2 million dollars each, equivalent to just over 11 million kronor.
Alex Norén finished with a total of 2 under par, which means 24th place for the Swede.
