After having gone three under par during Thursday's opening round, Åberg started the second round with two bogeys on the golf course The Renaissance Club.

Then the Swedish world ninth alternated eight birdies with seven pars before finishing with another bogey and ending up five under par for the day. This gives a shared third place at a total of eight under par. The 25-year-old is three strokes behind the American Chris Gotterup who leads before the weekend's play.

The Swedes Sebastian Söderberg (–5), Jesper Svensson (–3) and Henrik Norlander (–1) also made the cut, just like Åberg, while Alex Norén (+1) and Simon Forsström (+2) did not.

Next week, the prestigious British Open will be decided in Portrush in Northern Ireland. No Swedish male player has won a major since Henrik Stenson won "The Open" at Royal Troon in Scotland in 2016.
