Åberg and Norén share 13th place at -1 after the first day of play in Ohio.

It could have been even better.

Both Swedes were three under par at one point. But Åberg made a double bogey on the 13th hole after hitting his shot from the greenside bunker too far, sending the ball into the water. Norén instead found the water with his long approach on the 15th hole and then finished the round with another bogey.

Åberg was playing his second tournament with his new putter and had strong statistics on the greens - sixth among all players - although he finished by missing a short putt.

Tommy Fleetwood of England and Americans Wyndham Clark, JJ Spaun and Ryan Gerard lead at -5.

The winner of the signature competition will receive a prize check worth just over 37 million kronor.
