Radar equipment and dogs trained to find cadavers were used by those searching for people reported missing in the ongoing gang wars between, among others, drug cartels.

The tracks led to an abandoned property where the bodies were discovered last week, announces the prosecution authority in Guanajuato. Five of the deceased have been identified.

The state has several popular tourist destinations, but it has also developed into the region that has registered the most murders in the past, according to official statistics - last year, over 3,000 people were murdered in the region located in the central part of the country.

A fundamental part of the conflict is the struggle between the rival gangs Santa Rosa de Lima and Jalisco Nueva Generación (Jalisco's new generation), but several criminal syndicates are involved.

Over 480,000 people have been killed and 120,000 are reported missing since the gang wars broke out on a large scale in 2006.
