It is the film company Paramount Primal, a spin-off from Paramount Pictures, that has obtained the rights to make a remake of the original script for "A Haunting on Elm Street", reports Variety.
The new version will be produced in collaboration with director Wes Craven's estate, including his widow Iya Labunka and son Jonathan Craven.
Who will play the infamous child killer Freddy Krueger is not yet known.
The film, which does not yet have a title, will be based on the first film from 1984.
