A 92-year-old man has been sentenced to forensic psychiatric care for murdering his 94-year-old partner.

The man suffers from advanced dementia and has neither denied nor admitted it during the trial.

When the home care service came on a planned visit to the couple's home in Staffanstorp on September 9 last year, the man said that he had killed his partner.

His lawyer has argued that the man cannot be convicted because he lacked intent. The lawyer has also referred to an emergency situation, at least an imagined one, Lund District Court writes in a press release.

However, the court believes that the man was sufficiently aware of his actions at the time of the crime to be considered to have had intent. He should also not be acquitted on the grounds of self-defense, the court believes.
