At least 88 postal operators around the world choose to completely or partially stop shipments, according to the UN's postal agency, the Universal Postal Union.
The reason is that the USA on August 29 removed the exemption for import duty on smaller packages, which have a declared value of under 800 dollars (approximately 7,500 kronor).
Postal operators in countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Italy, and Japan have announced that the majority of packages with recipients in the USA are no longer accepted. Also, Postnord in Sweden has made such a decision.
Ordinary letters without goods are not affected by the pause. Nor are shipments sent from the USA.
