The attack occurred during the night towards Tuesday, according to information from a local official.
The Islamist rebel group ADF is reported to be behind the attack, which is said to have occurred in connection with people gathering for a funeral in Ntoyo in the province of North Kivu.
The ADF attack caused about 60 deaths, but the final death toll will be announced later this evening since the territory has just deployed forces in the area to count the number of beheaded people, says Colonel Alain Kiwewa, administrator of the Luberoterritory where Ntoyo is located.
