The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at a so-called adventure mine in Tuna-Hästberg. The details of the fatal accident are still unclear.
The deceased remains in one of the mine's caves, and specialist divers will recover the body early next week, the police say on their website.
A preliminary investigation into involuntary manslaughter has been initiated, but no one is suspected of a crime in connection with the death.
