Migrants were on the oil platform since the rubber boat they left Libya in was shipwrecked. They had been stuck on the platform for three days when they were rescued during the night to Sunday by the ship Astral, which is run by the organization Open Arms.

There were several small children among those who were rescued. Among other things, a woman had given birth to a boy while she was on the oil platform, while another woman had given birth to a child just a few days earlier, according to the organization.

The rescued migrants were taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa.

After the rescue from the oil platform, Astral discovered more than a hundred migrants who also needed help. Open Arms provided them with life jackets and they could later be rescued by the ship Louise Michel, which is sponsored by the street artist Banksy.
