For those who avoid the “looksmaxxer”:
(cinema)The Batman villain’s origin story is a sad “body horror” tale about losing everything as beauty fades. Matt Hagen is a hugely popular movie star whose face is cut apart by a mob boss. Experimental surgery causes his face to start melting. This might trigger anyone who thinks they can sculpt a better jawline with a hammer to the face.
For TV viewers:
(cinema). On a snowy night, courier Bryan takes on an extra mission to transport an organ to a hospital in Raccoon City. But the mission turns into a fight for survival against various mutated zombies. Video game fans risk post-traumatic stress from seeing all the padlocks that, just as in the game of the same name, refuse to break when shot.
For corporate slaves:
(HBO Max).Imagine an endless office landscape where you get lost and can never go home. That’s roughly what happens to a failed architect, his psychologist and a young couple in the so-called “liminal space” beneath a furniture store. The strange place is populated by distorted reflections of themselves. Norwegian star Renate Reinsve captures the panic that can set in when you look at yourself in the mirror after a long day in front of a screen.
For incels and femcels:
(VOD)New studies say Generation Z isn’t having sex, and politicians are warning that the birth rate is stagnating. “Obsession” is a classic case of “be careful what you wish for.” Soft-spoken Bear puts a love spell on his girlfriend, Nikki, making her completely obsessed with him. She packs his lunchbox with a dead cat and tapes the front door shut so he can’t leave the house. Nikki’s behavior may seem crazy, but it’s a direct result of Bear’s inability to take the initiative in the first place.
For the nostalgic:
(HBO Max).Everyone loves the brutal Jason Voorhees from the “Friday the 13th” movies - at least until they try to rewatch them and realize they’re pretty mediocre. The excellent prequel series “Crystal Lake” follows Jason’s mother, who turns out to be almost as bloodthirsty as her son. The series is so good that it might trick you into thinking it’s time to revisit the movies.
