A 470-kilogram aerial bomb from World War II has been removed from a construction site in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

The removal took place safely and without incident, according to police.

The US-made bomb was an AN-M44. It was used by the Allies when they bombed German positions and liberated Belgrade in 1944.

Before the aerial bomb was removed, the area where it was found, in central Belgrade, was checked by police. Residents were urged to move their cars and, if possible, leave their homes.

The bomb was taken to a military training facility 180 kilometers from Belgrade, where it will be destroyed.
