Severe monsoon rains and floods have killed 45 people in Pakistan in just a few days, according to disaster authorities in the country.

The highest death toll is in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan. Among the 21 victims are ten children. 14 of the victims died in the Swat Valley, where the water masses swept away families from a riverbank, according to the authorities.

In Punjab, 13 people have died since Wednesday, including eight children who were killed when walls and roofs collapsed due to the rain. A further 11 people have died in Sindh and Balochistan.

Meteorologists warn that the risk of severe rain and flooding remains very high at least until Saturday.
