The survivors and bodies were found on Monday morning, according to the Greek coastguard. The boat used to cross the water between Turkey's coast and the island, on the other hand, has not been found.
It is unclear what nationality the people have and exactly what happened.
Earlier in April, a total of 16 people died when two boats sank in the region, one in Greek waters and the other in Turkish.
Many people fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia choose the sea route from Turkey to the Greek islands. The risky journey is often made in inadequate rubber boats.
