All 39 are Indonesian citizens and were allegedly duped by fake job advertisements on social media. They were then held against their will and forced to work in online fraud, a police source told AFP.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the rescue operation. Local police chief David Manning says the gang may be part of a larger network.
"There will be no leniency shown towards those who traffic and exploit people," Manning said.
