Nigerian military forces on Easter Sunday freed 31 people who were kidnapped by gunmen during a church service in a village in the country's northwest, AFP reports.
The military said in a statement that its forces engaged in "a firefight" with the kidnappers, forcing the "terrorists" to release the hostages.
Seven people, five of whom were civilians, were reportedly killed in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent release.
