At least 29 people have died in a boat accident in Nigeria. 80 people were on board a boat on its way across a river in the state of Niger when it sank, according to rescue workers.
"The cause is attributed to overloading and collision with a tree stump", it says in a government statement.
Accidents are common on Nigeria's heavily trafficked rivers, usually caused by overloaded boats, poor maintenance or failure to follow safety regulations.
