The double murder has links to the long-standing gang conflict in the area. One of the murdered men was in his 20s and the other was 25. They were accompanied by a third man who escaped the shooting unharmed. He had connections to the gang environment.

He has been moving around the area wearing a protective vest and a balaclava in the immediate vicinity of the crime. The public has been concerned, says Åsa Toll.

“Shot in the back”

The man who fired the fatal shots is also convicted of the attempted murder of the gang member.

"We have concluded that he is the perpetrator, based on a large number of eyewitnesses at the scene. The young men who died were shot in the back as they tried to escape," says Toll.

The perpetrator has admitted that he was at the scene, but said that he left the gun with another person and then left the scene himself. Taking the witnesses into account, we believe that there is no room for another perpetrator.

Another man, also aged 25, was sentenced to 15 years and 10 months in prison for aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder. He was also found guilty of providing the shooter with the murder weapon and taking care of it after the shooting.

No damages

The gang conflict in Biskopsgården has been going on since 2012 and has led to a long series of shootings and other acts of violence.

The man who survived the shooting, the actual target, had requested so-called compensation for injury. The Gothenburg District Court rejected that request.

He was aware that there was a threat against him. Network membership is a conscious risk-taking on his part. In that case, we mean that he has not been subjected to such a serious violation that he should receive compensation, says Åsa Toll.
