"Guingamp has received with great sadness the news that our young player has passed away," the French second-division club wrote on its website.
The 21-year-old died after being pulled from the Rhône River near Lyon earlier this week, local media reported.
Wednesday was the hottest day recorded in France since 1947, with temperatures reaching just over 40 degrees Celsius in many southern cities. At least 40 heat-related drownings have been reported in the country in the past week, mainly among young people, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Tuesday.
