The man threatened several times that his sons would shoot to death a 45-year-old man who he claimed had a relationship with his ex-wife. When the 45-year-old was shot to death outside his residence in southern Stockholm, the suspicions were quickly directed towards the family's sons – and now one of them is convicted in Svea Court of Appeal after previously having been acquitted.

The son was 17 years old when the murder of the father of three took place in Bredäng outside Stockholm. He is now sentenced to three and a half years of closed youth care for aiding and abetting the murder. He is also sentenced for serious narcotics offenses.

In the district court, the now 18-year-old man was only sentenced for serious weapons offenses, as he had handled the murder weapon and it was found hidden in a thicket near his home.

However, the Court of Appeal considers that the evidence is sufficient to sentence him as an accomplice. The judges point to the handling of the murder weapon, that the man and his brother moved unusually much in Bredäng at the time before the murder, as well as a motive picture that is considered particularly strong.

"Cold-blooded"

"It is a question of an extremely tragic event, where a man without connections to crime has been murdered in a cold-blooded way", says Anna-Karin Larsson, one of the judicial judges in the case, in a comment.

The 18-year-old, his father, and his brother are said to have disliked the 45-year-old as they were of the opinion that the man had a relationship with the father's ex-wife, the sons' mother. The ex-husband was sentenced in 2022 for serious assault on the same man and had on repeated occasions threatened him that his sons would shoot him, according to the investigation.

This father of three has had no other enemies than just this family, says prosecutor Kajsa Frisk.

Brother disappeared

The 18-year-old's older brother is also suspected in the murder case, but he is not prosecuted as the police have not been able to get hold of him. He was detained in an earlier stage, but when he was released on bail, he bought a one-way ticket out of Sweden, says Frisk.

He has simply disappeared. Now I will read the judgment carefully and take a position on how we will proceed with the suspicions against the older brother, she says.

The father left Sweden about three weeks before the murder and has not returned.

The Svea Court of Appeal also confirms the sentence of four years in prison for serious weapons offenses for a 19-year-old friend of the now convicted son, as he also handled the murder weapon.
