17 people were killed and 15 injured when gunmen opened fire on patrons at a bar west of Johannesburg on Saturday night, South African police said in a post on Facebook.
Another 15 people were shot and injured. The perpetrators, according to police, were said to be eight people who fled the scene in two vehicles.
In a separate incident, gunmen attacked a nightclub outside Cape Town on Sunday morning, police said, killing 10 people and injuring 11 others.
Shootings in South Africa are common, and the country of about 62 million people has one of the highest murder rates in the world. About 60 people are killed every day, according to AFP.
