During the raid on an animal shop in the town of Nules in eastern Spain, the civil guard found 56 exotic species. Including two ring-tailed lemurs, the endangered bird balistare, five meerkats and four ibis birds.
The animals are considered to have an average market value of close to 800,000 kronor.
In the shop, two men, 30 and 35 years old, were also found, who are being prosecuted for trade in protected species and smuggling. According to the authorities, the men did not have permission to breed the animals.
The investigation has been ongoing for months since the police found an advertisement where protected species were sold on the internet.
