14-year-old detained over Älvsjö murder appeals to Supreme Court for release

The 14-year-old girl detained on suspicion of being an accessory to the high-profile murder of a woman in Älvsjö, in southern Stockholm, wants to be released. The prosecutor opposes her release but believes the Supreme Court should rule on the case.

The girl has appealed the decision to detain her to the Supreme Court. The Attorney General believes that she should remain in custody, but says the Supreme Court should still consider the case because “there is a need for guidance going forward.”

Since a law change on September 10 this year, 14-year-olds can be detained for serious crimes. The change lowered the age of criminal responsibility from 15 to 14.
