The Palestinian children and their relatives had on Wednesday crossed the border to Egypt, where the children were examined at hospitals in the capital Cairo. They were then flown to Italy with an Italian military plane and were met on Thursday evening at the airport in Rome by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Some of the children will receive care in the capital, while others will be taken to other hospitals, including in Turin and Milan.
The first eleven Palestinian children arrived in Italy in January 2024. Since then, tens of other children have come to the country for care during the war between Hamas and Israel, according to Italy's Foreign Ministry.
Every child we bring to Italy is a sign of hope, a commitment to life and the future, says Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
