For some time, a violent struggle has been going on between two rivaling drug cartels in the coastal area.

We have about 12 dead and three injured, said police chief Oscar Valencia and added that the attackers shot at another group near the site of the first massacre, which killed two more people.

2025 has been a bloody year in Ecuador. In mid-July, at least nine people were killed in a bar shooting in the same province. During the first five months of the year, more than 4,000 murders have been registered, according to public statistics.
