In total, 14 people have been killed in two gang-related attacks in Ecuador. In addition, 17 people have been injured, including several children.

At one of the incidents, masked men got off motorcycles and opened fire at a neighborhood soccer match in the country's largest city Guayaquil. Six people were killed and several of the children who were on the scene were injured.

The police have also found eight bodies over the weekend that, according to local police, showed "signs of torture" in the city of Buena Fe. The people belonged to a group that was traveling in the area, reports local media. Four people in the company, an elderly woman and three girls, are still missing.

Ecuador, which was once considered one of the safest countries in Latin America, has in recent years seen a dramatic increase in deadly violence.
