The accident occurred on Tuesday night, local time, when a long-distance train collided with a stationary commuter train in the city of Bekasi in West Java.
According to initial reports, seven people died and at least 84 were injured; a few hours later, the death toll had doubled.
According to a spokesperson for the state-owned railway company, all of the passengers who died were on the commuter train. According to several media outlets, a number of people remain trapped on that train.
