Since before, the athletics association has only presented the three marathon runners Suldan Hassan, Samuel Tsegay and Ebba Tulu Chala. Now it is clear that 14 more names can start getting ready for the World Championship – nearly three months in advance.

”Some of the names presented now are very obvious, but for some others it can still be nice to get this pre-nomination. Those who may not have felt completely sure can now get a little more peace of mind”, says national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist to the association's website and continues:

”It is usually appreciated, so that you can focus on optimizing your chances for the World Championship.”

Among the names are some of the ”obvious” ones such as Armand Duplantis, Andreas Almgren and Daniel Ståhl.

But on the list is also high jump talent Engla Nilsson, who took a sensational European Championship bronze in the spring and since then continued to impress.

”After the absolutely incredible breakthrough indoors, Engla has only confirmed it outdoors with 1.93 and 1.94. She is now ranked top-20 in the world and is this year's female comet in Swedish athletics", says Bergqvist about the selection.

The World Championship in Tokyo is taking place between September 13-21.
