At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, tour operator Apollo had to evacuate its guests after a fire broke out on the island. The travellers were then moved to a beach.
"We have received information from the local authorities that an evacuation of our guests living in the town of Plomari has been requested," said Martina Krantz, press officer for Apollo, to TT.
Two hours later they were allowed to return to their hotels, reports Expressen.
Fires raged on several Greek islands on Wednesday. On Crete, authorities warned of several fires that risked spreading in strong winds on the island. Near the city of Rethymno, two firefighters died when their car was surrounded by flames. And on Paros, ten villages were evacuated, according to AFP.
