The Mexican Navy has been deployed to assist with the rescue effort, El Universal reports.
Five of the 98 injured are reported to have serious injuries. There were 241 passengers on board and nine people working on the train.
President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote in a post on X that she is following the situation closely.
