13 Charged in Suspected SEK 15 Million Pharmaceutical Fraud Targeting Swedish Regions

13 people have been indicted on suspicion of defrauding several regions of just over SEK 15 million through pharmaceutical fraud.

The fraud concerns the licensed drug Myobloc, a Botox-like preparation. The individuals are suspected of charging several regions significantly more than they paid for the drug.

“According to the investigation, Myobloc was purchased from the US for around SEK 15,000 and then sold on to the pharmacy for around SEK 40,000. The cost was then charged to the regions through the pharmaceutical benefits scheme,” the Swedish Economic Crime Authority said in a press release.

The defendants include people with connections to, among other things, a pharmacy, beauty clinics and drug prescriptions.
