Both accidents are believed to have occurred in the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey.
According to the Greek coast guard, six people died in a collision with a police boat off the island of Lesbos. Four women and an infant are reported to be among the dead.
The other six people who died were aboard a smaller boat that capsized near the Greek island of Samos. Fourteen people from that boat were reportedly rescued.
