The attack occurred on Tuesday as the ship passed through the disputed strait between Oman and Iran. The injured have been taken to Oman for treatment.
A large part of the crew are Indian citizens. India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that it “condemns the attack earlier today” and that the ship “was hit by a projectile.”
Trade through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely restricted since the US and Israel attacked Iran in February this year, followed by repeated Iranian attacks on ships.
Iran is blocking the strait, while the US Navy is blocking Iranian naval traffic in the area.
