On Sunday, the autumn edition of the university admission test will be written all over Sweden. Over 70,000 people are registered for the test – which is being written for the 100th time.

Totally 72,735 people will on Sunday take up the pen and write the university entrance exam. It is significantly fewer than in the spring, when 93,000 people – the highest number in 30 years – were registered.

Those who write the university entrance exam increase their chances of being accepted to a university education with high competition for the places. Autumn 2025 saw the number of applications to university and college education reach a record – probably due to a worse labour market in combination with growing age groups. This also explains the high number of registrations for the university entrance exam in the spring, according to the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR).

The exam is usually given twice a year, once in the autumn and once in the spring, at over a hundred locations around Sweden. You can write the exam from and including the year you turn 18. The test result is valid for eight years.

The university entrance exam was introduced in 1977. The oldest person who has ever written the exam was 93 years old.
