Woman was cheated out of thousands of kronor over the phone.

During the day, the police receive information that a woman in Strängnäs has been cheated out of money in connection with a phone call. The person who called the woman is said to have claimed in the conversation that they represented a larger organization, and that the complainant had won money. Through this approach, the perpetrator has managed to cheat the woman out of around 15,000 kronor.

The police want to remind you to hang up the phone if you are talking to someone who claims to be calling from an organization that you have no connection to. Scammers like these can also try to stress you by saying that you are about to lose money in order to make it easier for you to follow their instructions. Considering that these people have a whole arsenal of methods when it comes to telephone scams, it is easy to be deceived by their tricks. Think critically and be generally suspicious. Remember that you can always hang up the phone. You don't have to be polite.

If you are a victim or suspect that someone has tried to victimize you or someone close to you - contact the police.
