Mobile phone use in traffic at the accident site
Under Thursday afternoon, a traffic accident occurred on E18 in Karlstad. Our patrols have been fully occupied with traffic direction and solving the traffic situation together with rescue services, the Swedish Transport Administration, and ambulance personnel.
Unfortunately, the patrols have also had to spend time reporting drivers for mobile phone use in traffic, as they have been trying to film/take photos of the accident site for unclear use.
Not keeping focus on surrounding traffic can result in a fatal accident at any moment, where you yourself or other road users risk being killed or severely injured.
Despite the ban introduced in 2018, despite the risk of killing oneself and others, and despite the risk of fines of 1,500 kronor, unfortunately, there are still too many who use their mobile phone while driving.
The ban on using a mobile phone covers drivers of all motorized vehicles, including mopeds, epatractors, and heavy vehicles. Exceptions apply to emergency personnel, such as customs, police, and ambulance personnel.
In many accidents, suspected mobile phone use is believed to have been the cause or a contributing factor to the incident.
Our goal is that no one should die or be seriously injured in traffic.
Help us spread the message to family, friends, colleagues, and others you are in contact with: Leave your mobile phone alone while driving, it can save lives.
