Scams in Umeå, where someone poses as a police officer.
Two scams have come to the police's attention in Umeå over the day. It is elderly people who have been called by an unknown person claiming to be from the police. The person calling says that a person or persons have been detained and in connection with this, for example, stolen bank cards have been found. The people being called are urged to confirm their card numbers.
The police do not call private individuals and ask them to read out their card numbers, connect to Swish or log in to Bank-id.
A similar approach has been seen on other locations in Sweden. A current warning is to be vigilant about this in Umeå as more people may be affected by this type of scam. In any case, it is men born in 1939 and 1940 who have been called. An extra warning is therefore being issued to men in that age range.
Those affected by scams are urged to call the police and make a report.
