Thieves deceived themselves into acquiring valuable items.
A case of physical vishing, fraud, has occurred in central Eskilstuna during Tuesday afternoon. An elderly woman received a visit at home by a person who claimed to come from a government agency. By scaring the victim, the person managed to trick her into handing over valuable items and then disappeared from the scene. A report of fraud and impersonation of a public official has been filed, but there is currently no suspect.
This type of approach is unfortunately common. The scammers are very skilled and well-prepared and often start by scaring the victim in order to then offer "help".
The police urge people to always file a police report, even if the scammer was unsuccessful in their attempt.
People with elderly relatives and acquaintances are also urged to talk about this type of crime, not just once but repeatedly.
